Group Leader Resources

The Group Leader

(1) organizes the group and (2) leads discussions.  In some groups these two roles are separated.

The Group Organizer

  • Arranges a suitable place to meet monthly or bi-monthly.
  • Maintains a list of member names.
  • Publicizes the event with flyers and brochures.
  • Is available by phone or email to answer questions from potential new members

The Discussion Leader

is not an expert on the selection, but must read it carefully in order to develop 5-6 good, interpretive questions.

The Leader

  • Gets the discussion going and keeps it going by asking questions.
  • Helps the group find and explore ideas found in the reading.
  • Makes sure everyone who wants to gets an opportunity to speak.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Brings the discussion back to the book when people wander away from the text.
